One of the first signs of fall around here is when things start, well, falling. We have two fruit trees in our yard, and the pear tree usually ripens around early September. This year, it seems to be running a little late and much of the fruit seems smaller. I am still having a hard time keeping up with the pears though, and my dehydrator has been running nearly constantly.
We also have a plum tree (I've heard the variety called "Italian plums"). Every year this tree drops pounds and pounds of delicious plums, but again, I often have a hard time keeping up. I think a lot of plums will be donated or given away this year.
I used to make plum jam, but I decided I didn't like it as well as berry jam, so now I mainly dehydrate the plums that aren't eaten fresh.
It hasn't frosted yet, so we have a bonus month of veggies in the garden. Perhaps that is to make up for a late start?
My little succulent arrangement is doing well too! Given all the succulents arrangements in the magazines, I guess it's a trendy thing this year.
